What are the best training resources when beginning?

CPMC is a partner of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) Partners in Pastoral Care Project.  Through collaborative efforts, the NACC Partners in Pastoral Care Project has developed Criminal Justice Ministry Pastoral Care Competencies.

On this website, you can access and watch a collection of webinars that offer valuable formative training and instruction. If you are just beginning your work in prison or jail ministry, we recommend the resource “Jail & Prison Ministry 101.”

If you want to network with others doing this ministry, consider becoming a ministry volunteer member of NACC ([email protected]).

Programs in jails and prisons that offer offenders education, life skills, religious expression, and recovery from substance abuse greatly reduce recidivism, benefit society, and help the offenders when they reintegrate into the community.

Are you developing resources?

We are also excited to share that we are working on creating a prison ministry certification through in partnership with interested dioceses for Catholic prison ministries. Please watch the NACC website for more information as the full training and certification become available.

If you have a current program for training and credentialing those providing prison ministry, please contact NACC ([email protected]). If you would like to network with others responsible for preparing those for jail and prison ministry or with others currently providing these services, contact NACC regarding its networking and membership offerings ([email protected]).
