The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is home to 40% of the prison population in Florida. Prison Ministry is an extension of parish life, and activities include: Holy Mass, Bible studies, RCIA, Pen Pal, and retreats.

The Office of Prison and Jail Ministry is committed to serving all people in prison or jail, within our diocese through Christian principles by our Catholic priests, deacons, and lay people. The office also provides assistance to those who are released into our communities and seek to reestablish themselves into everyday patterns of life and work. Residents Encounter Christ (REC) Prison Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Albany, NY

We have annual or semi-annual, intense 3-day weekend programs combined with timely follow-up meetings. Residents Encounter Christ (REC) is a three-day retreat experience for 60 to 100 male residents, conducted within a New York State correctional facility by a group of 16 to 20 Catholic volunteers. The weekend usually starts on a Friday morning and ends on Sunday afternoon. We also support weekly programs in most of the state prison facilities within the fourteen county Albany, NY Catholic Diocese. Basic techniques used emphasize personal and community growth. Volunteers can also help by participating in semi-annual hootenannies, which include music, faith sharing, witness talk, and a shared meal. During these gatherings, residents are given time to speak. Volunteers can also help by writing letters, in English or Spanish, for the inmates.

Project Angel

Project Angel is a registered 501c3 non-profit that was formed to support the Juvenile Department of Corrections (JDC). It developed as an outgrowth to the JDC ministry, which is a subset of the Diocese of St Petersburg (DOSP) Prison Ministry. The non-profit was formed to provide for the administrative requirements of collecting and accounting for supplies and funds that were being used to support the JDC in order to track and report assets as required. The Pinellas County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) provides protective custody for at risk teenage youth who are in danger of losing their lives to perpetual incarceration, drug addiction, apathy, or death without knowing their intrinsic value.
