Description

Our incarcerated brothers attend Mass on a weekly basis. Several priests come to the prison units each week to hear confession and to celebrate the Liturgy with our brothers-in-white. As volunteers, we teach RCIA for those brothers that want to continue their faith formation, participate in the Sacraments and for those that wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith and/or come into the Catholic Church. Most of the units have a choir - volunteers work with the choirs to learn liturgical music (Spanish/English). Often times musicians from other denominations participate as part of the choir. Volunteers are needed to help with RCIA and the choirs. We are present in six of the seven units in the Texas Panhandle. We provide at least one Kolbe Retreat per unit per year and at least one Kolbe Retreat gathering within 2-3 months following the initial retreat.

Baby Steps

  • Baby Steps is a unique program that works with parents/caretakers to strengthen their connection with their child. In order to participate, the parent must be pregnant and or be the parents/caretakers of a 0-3 year-old. However, there are no restrictions on parents/caretakers to participate in the program except they must be low-income. Potential parents/caretakers are assessed for their eligibility and appropriateness to participate in the program. Because Baby Steps is funded by the Greater Bay Area Child Abuse Council and the Bella Vista Foundation, there are NO fees for parents and or caretakers to participate in Baby Steps. Baby Steps staff works to concentrate on early attachment and those elements of early childhood that can be of concern to new mothers such as maternal depression, anxiety and high levels of stress. The inclusion of a parent/caregiver child group is also included as it works to build a natural community of support for caregivers and to break the isolation and stigma they may be experiencing. Baby Steps staff provide parents and or caretakers in-home child attachment and parenting support to pregnant women and infants. Team members provide parent/caregiver child group to build natural community of support for caregivers, to break the isolation, stigma and generational abuse. There are three core services offered by the program: Home Visitation, Case Management, and “Just Us” parent/caretaker-child attachment group. Baby Steps is part of a dynamic and energetic agency with several other programs that Baby Steps participants may benefit from such as mental health, employment and Immigration Legal Services. The Baby Steps program does not provide family, group or individual therapy. A Baby Steps team member will work with parents and or caretakers to locate appropriate internal or external providers for parents/caregivers interested in therapy.

Seeds of Hope Jail Ministry, Inc.

  • Seeds of Hope Jail Ministry, Inc. is rooted in the belief that the answer to reducing crime in our neighborhoods lies in changing the hearts and minds of offenders. We work toward this goal by offering the love of God and the gospel message to incarcerated and recently released individuals in ways that build positive, supportive relationships and encourage long-term connections to local faith communities. We offer cognitive behavioral classes to address criminal thinking and addiction behaviors, we pair offenders with a mentor to help as they return to the community, and we provide case management and referrals to additional resources.

Catholic Charities Diocese of Covington, KY Jail Ministry

  • Vision – Create a network of trained volunteers that act on Christ’s call of Matthew 25:36 and bring a Catholic presence through the use of existing jail ministry programs, the development of Catholic Charities programs, and the use of community partnerships. The Jail Ministry Program at Catholic Charities in Covington strives to meet the spiritual needs of all who are impacted by the criminal justice process. We work with people who are incarcerated or about to be released from jail or prison, families and friends of the incarcerated, and victims of crime. We emphasize justice and mercy for everyone in our work. We are concerned about the effects of crime and punishment in our society and advocate for justice in these areas while promoting responsibility, rehabilitation, and restoration. Catholic Charities staff works in partnership with agencies, correctional facilities, and volunteers to develop and support appropriate programs for those who are impacted by the effects of crime and punishment.
